FarmIQ was established with the modest goal of growing New Zealand’s red meat sector by $8.8 billion by 2025.
Challenge
FarmIQ is building a world beating farm management system as part of a programme of work intended to manage animals from pasture to plate. The project is a Primary Growth Partnership with funding from partners Silverfern Farm, Landcorp and the Ministry for Primary Industries.
FarmIQ are developing a system that provides farmers with a complete physical and logistic map of their farm, with detailed information their livestock, fertiliser, equipment and other crucial assets.
The systems is intended to improve farmers decision making, foster greater traceability, and enhance the marketing of New Zealand’s red meat products through paddock to plate quality assurance.
Solution
In partnership with software specialists Fronde and web design experts Pikselin, e-Spatial were engaged in 2011 as the spatial experts for the development of the FarmIQ Farm Management System.
e-Spatial’s has contributed their expertise to the design and development of the spatial elements of the FarmIQ system, including farm maps and spatial tools that enable farmers to easily capture and display their farm data.
The breadth and scale of the project has required e-Spatial to draw upon a wide range of our skill sets, including spatial architecture, spatial data management, application development, and imagery.
Business Benefit
Two years into the project, the development of the farm management system is on track, coming in under budget and receiving rave reviews from pilot users.
"e-Spatial have been a valued member of the team tasked with developing our Farm Management System. Their comprehensive knowledge of spatial technology and spatial data combined with an understanding of the agriculture sector have contributed to the success of the project thus far" says Collier Isaacs, CEO FarmIQ.
