New Zealand’s Immediate and Long Term Skills Shortage Lists supports 'Grow Spatial'
26.03.2018

SIBA understands that in order to Grow Spatial, we work on attracting, developing and retaining capable people in the industry. The work that we do to promote the industry via participation in the New Zealand Spatial Excellence Awards www.nzspatialawards.org.nz, NZTech Week, and other events are important initiatives. We also participate in the Geospatial Capability Committee - a group of like-minded individuals from government, academia and industry who have been working together for a number of years on initiatives to attract and develop people to the Spatial Industry in New Zealand. One such initiative is Immigration New Zealand's Immediate and Long Term Skills Shortage List.

The building of local capabilities and capacity is an on-going challenge and recruitment of people into the industry from offshore is necessary to address our gaps. If you are in the process of recruiting and are considering employing people from offshore, we encourage you to visit skillshortages.immigration.govt.nz/surveying-or-spatial-science-technician and skillshortages.immigration.govt.nz/other-spatial-scientist/ to understand options that candidate employees have available under these schemes.
